Senate Announces Immigration Agreement
May 17, 2007
Key Senators announced today an agreement with the White House on a comprehensive immigration reform measure that makes major changes to the current immigration system. The plan provides a legalization program for the undocumented population and eliminates all family visas with the exception of spouses and children in favor of more visas for highly-educated, highly-skilled workers. THE PLAN HAS NOT BECOME LAW. The measure must pass the Senate, be reconciled with an immigration bill in the House of Representatives, and be signed by the President. Much remains to be done, but this is a major step with both good and bad implications. Read my blog for more information.
