USCIS Technically Eliminates Naturalization Backlog
September 18th, 2006
U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services announced that it has eliminated the backlog of naturalization applications and is now meeeting its processing goal of six months in most naturalization cases. Some applications will be delayed beyond the six month goal, typically when there are unresolved security questions resulting from a fingerprint or name check. The "elimination" of the backlog is based on applications that are currently ready for a decision; applications upon which a decision cannot be presently made were not counted for purposes of the elimination announcement.
